Otherwise, your company name will probably be lost.

Talk to your fans. They’re going to have a feeling that the band is real and human, instead of some robot out their looking to get their attention by sending those a lot of promotional messages.

Build a forex account on a social media site. You’ll be able to befriend people who have same interests in music when you do. You can speak to them. Answer their queries, and put across questions of your family.

You ought to work to set up a relationship with them. Once you are successful in doing that, drop them a hyperlink for a webpage. You should also provide your visitors to be able to register for your website. If they register, permit them a chance to hear some free music of yours as an expression of the appreciation.

This really is great bargain. You’ll get to find out lots of people in this way. You will definately get their e mails, and you may call them regarding any new updates. Tend not to ignore these subscribers. Write to them once in a while while.

Live performances count a lot. It contains the crowd coming in your direction. However, don’t just get on takes place and start playing your music. Enjoy the chance perform live. Prepare well on your performance which it becomes flawless. Usually do not disappoint the bunch.

It is advisable to try out professional. Insurance policy for marketing and music to be removed in the venue. Furthermore have a mailing list available. You need to ask website visitors to provide information like e mails and names. This will likely gain you more contacts.

Reason one: Being signed to some Major Record label you’re sure to get a “slave deal” also called a 360 deal. This 360 deal is becoming lots of recognition. Most new artist today, will be presented with this deal. With the downfall in record sales, major record companies are able to use the 360 deal to generate more cash through other avenues from other artist. Not merely will these businesses make income using the artist record sales, they’re going to create a area of the artist touring profits and memorabilia.

So my question to all aspiring musicians is, Why be a slave for the music industry when you are able become the perfect own business and learn to take up a record label? How come everything as an artist, being the creative one whilst still being giving a portion of the precious profit to the people who failed to use any one their brain cells.

You need to be a packaged artist. Start to brand yourself being an independent artist. Buy your BUZZ UP! Execute a show at local open mic night, get a friend to video record your show and upload the video online. Join numerous social media networking sites since you can to find the word out with regards to you being an artist. Perfect your talent. Network with musicians in your town. In case you still want to be in the major league, set a goal to reach national recognition.

Hopefully, you found this information a huge help for you and also you learn more concerning how to find a record label independently.

Just how to begin a record label is quickly becoming what many thinking of getting bit of the songs industry pie would like to learn.

Hey, while using global record companies being a $48 most important each year business, independent label production as a $12 billion annually industry, and several record label owners becoming the focal point with this money-making industry, if you possibly could efficiently learn the ins-and-outs concerning how to take up a record label you’ll without doubt be making use of a gold mind that grows by progress annually.

Now, you must have a reputable look at what starting your own record label business entails: there is absolutely no overnight success within this field. The reason being you figure to compete against major labels as well as other independent record label producers.

However, knowing whatever you should do to produce this happen, inside a step-by-step format, there’s truly nothing that can prevent you reaching your goals, outright yourself.

Keep in mind that 99% of these seeking to get into seo just have the will, nevertheless they not have the knowledge.

They merely be aware of kind of music genre they’d want to get into, etc., nevertheless they have no idea of step one into physically making it happen.

Money To begin A Record Label:

Yes, this can be a a big one, or else “the” big one. Make a bid of the items you would be selling and how much you would charge for it.

Contemplate these questions:

*If you are likely to employ outside artistes, how much might you pay them?

*After payment for them and estimated costs, the facts that you will be will make for every CD which you sell?

*Estimate these figures.

The category of business Your Record Label Is going to be:

You should “incorporate” your company to pay for yourself legally. You, you want to get strait into the recruiting of musical talent, having your name out, and initiate spitting out records on the market.

Before any one that could happen, you must be legally backed. You do not need your record label to consider off, and then out of the blue the federal government or some individual come knocking on your own door serving you with many kind of legal papers since you could possibly have violated some form of law.

Cover yourself.

There are many types of business you could incorporate:

*sole proprietary

*partnership based (in the event you choose such a incorporation all the fine print of partnership needs to have been drafted as agreement stating the liabilities and responsibilities of each one of the partner)

Then, you must just obtain a business license, which may very easily be performed from the city or county business license office.

Other Factors To think about To start out An archive Label:

*The distribution from the music itself.

*The managing with the recording.

*The bookkeeping.

Qualities You need To get started on Accurate documentation Label:

Artist PR is the important part of how to get a gig. If you are looking to get yourself to the top of the charts or to land a bunch of gigs in local bars then your public relations has to be top notch.

The way to how to get gigs from people you’ve never even met
There are numerous of methods you can find people you have not met or who’ve never seen you reside, to reserve your band. The easiest and least expensive way to start to how to get gigs is using the telephone.

First, be sure you’ve got a long list of target venue names and numbers and you’re simply clear absolutely need mind about why a venue should book you.

Are you able to get places to book you on the phone without you even meeting them? The solution is certainly yes.

Some people attempt to figure out that selling is a “black art” with secrets known simply to the few. You must certainly be a “born salesperson” and possess the “gift in the gab” before you succeed.

Thankfully you should not be an extrovert who is able to talk for his country to have gigs from people you have not met. You just need to an established system or framework and also the self belief this may provide you with. When you can learn how to play a guitar or remember song lyrics you’ll be able to master the basics of promoting. Sufficiently in fact, to maintain your band busy all year round.

Not just that, but because people tend to believe to be able to sell will be the domain of only the chosen few, when you can actually how to get gigs by selling your band, you can create yourself indispensable to any band.

One on one selling, the much feared “foot-in the door” isn’t something you will need to concern yourself with for gig-getting. You are able to secure all the bookings you will need without ever needing to get in front of you to definitely sell your act.

Ask, don’t tell

One thing to remember about selling is it’s primarily about asking them questions of your prospective buyer. Selling your band isn’t (just) about telling a venue booker how great your band is.

Only once or twice you’ve asked questions to find out what the venue could possibly be trying to find would you say to them why they should consider hiring you.

How To Get A Gig!

The pain you are wanting to do in asking them questions is usually to gain ammunition you will use when the time comes to inform them about your band.

The machine I’ve employed to get gig after gig and which could work for you, revolves around 3 key questions you’ll ask.

Check they have got time and energy to speak with you (don’t imitate the worse type of call center behavior and go plowing in to a speech about yourself if your person you’re calling hasn’t said he has time for you to listen). Introduce yourself (“I’m in the local covers band that plays at Chaser’s wine bar amongst other areas….” or whatever)

Tell him/her you have one quick question must “If that’s ok?”

Ask them concerning the bands they currently use of course, if they meet all their requirements. When you’ve asked this last question you’ll either have a “Thanks but we’re pleased with our current acts”. In this instance let them know you realize and you should stay in touch. Make this happen using a newsletter on a regular basis until you secure a booking.Or, more often than you’d imagine, you may be told they may be searching for new acts or their roster of bands could use improving. When you are getting one of these simple responses there’s a booking there for the taking. Use another question and have them how you attempt getting thought to play there.

A few will ask for your demo CD or MySpace details. Providing you with have whatever they request and you sound at the very least reasonable you will get the gig when you’ve they’ve heard it and also you give them a call back. But you will probably need a quantity of follow-up calls to chase them. Don’t give up the follow-up. I’ve had several venue take 5 or even more follow-up calls then again become regular profitable venues for us.

Other places you call ask regarding your price and availability immediately. So be sure to be aware of price you’re shooting for and you’re equipped with your gig diary for every single call and that means you consider the booking there after which.

Gareth Bird is an active semi-pro musician who gigs regularly at venues such as the Hard Rock Café. He has his own Sales & Marketing business advising several leading companies and it is mcdougal of Gig-Getter: How to get more gigs than it is possible to play. Gareth writes for Bass Guitar Magazine about getting gigs and has been featured in a number of other magazines for musicians.

After you have played and rehearsed all your songs, you’ve two main options (three should you combine them.) The next big step is recording songs or playing live and in most cases playing live could be the important one. With today’s technology, bands can record successfully independently in your house but many people choose to record using the backing of a label or publisher. The ultimate way to build a buzz in regards to you, find some good publicity and have genuine label attention is to start playing live and make up a fanbase.

Now that you’ve decided you’ll want to play some live sets to further your employment, how do you do it? The subsequent hints should give you a jump start in relation to finding live gigs.

Do Your Venue Research

Before you begin worrying an excessive amount of about gigs, define your choice of venues to places which you could easily get to and maybe bring a fantastic few friends or supporters. When it is going to be a far trek it might not be advisable on your first group of gigs. Businesses can also be and be sure you approach venues or promoters who take care of the songs your band plays.

You could be among the best new indie bands of your generation but when you generate at the goth or metal club you aren’t planning to do yourself any favors.

A lot is determined by where you live or community. Bands in major cities must have a robust selection of venues and promoters to use but your choice could be limited if you reside in the country or are in an american city without having real live music scene.

If it is the scenario, you will have to widen your search bear in mind to aspect in the extra traveling some time and costs before deciding on what venue would be best for you.

If you are in the band you will have a desire for seeing live bands anyway that serves to know some venues which may fit your kind of music but there are several places you can seek out tips about where you can play:

o Notice boards in rehearsal rooms

o School / college or University notice boards

o School / college or University newspapers

o Local newspapers

o Music magazines

o The internet (specific searches or via music sites)

Many of these places should be examined to get as much information as is possible.

Find Music/Band Promoters

Some individuals will advise you to use your personal gig but this will involve lots of time and money when you ought to be centering on using both of these issues to help you the group. It will be a greater use of your time and energy to find promoters who already run nights and who will be looking for bands to try out at their evenings.

These promoters will probably be as keen to know if you possibly could draw in an audience rather than how good you’re but during this period, live experience can be worthwhile. One important thing to recollect is make an attempt to AVOID PAY To try out scenarios. It might be tricky should you be from your small area high isn’t any other option but you can find usually a lot of promoters who’re happy to maybe you have for the bill without you the need to foot the bill. You possibly will not make anything out there gigs however its all about experience and also you quite often get a number of free beers.

Produce a Demo CD or EP

Generally you will need to give a CD of your bands music. Some promoters are prepared to take a look at a band via their site or myspace and a few might be happy to receive mp3 files however it is sensible to own some CDs constructed so that you can give people.

The CD must have these features:

o Optimally 3 songs

o They do not have to your 3 best songs (it would help) but make it representative of the set you’d play

o Have contact information for the CD and packaging

o Draw attention to this rock band without needing gimmicks

This CD should then be distributed to promoters, club venues and also promoters or the air to make more awareness concerning your band.

Based on where you stand based, getting a gig can be a little more difficult than the others though the principle ideas mentioned previously should stand you in good stead regardless of where you might be situated. Providing people are interested in live music and pub and club venues have to keep people arriving to earn money there’s always seeing a amount of venues offering live music nights.

All you want do is be sure to sound your better and then suggest yourself heard.

Songs, Lyrics and Music Theft can be a Fast-Growing Problem.
Songwriters, Musicians, Composers and Authors are unwittingly putting their Intellectual Property at risk online digital theft.

With somewhere approximately almost 3 billion people now having easy accessibility to Internet, the incidences of IP theft – ‘Intellectual Property Theft’ – haven’t ever been higher.

The main problem depends on abdominal muscles technology that modern, creative individuals use, on a daily basis, to record, store and distribute their work.

It’s estimated that vast amounts are increasingly being lost every day by artists whose songs and music continues to be ‘lifted’, illegally, devoid of the owner’s consent, to generate money without having goal of sharing the earnings while using creators of these often-valuable works.

The application of the internationally-recognized Copyright symbol – the ‘©’ – will no longer carries any protection in any respect from millions of unscrupulous individuals – and businesses – willing to steal songs, music and lyrics while using latest digital technology. And more often these days, an easy ‘right click’ of a mouse ‘s all that you need.

Looking for those hard to get music contracts or record labels looking for artists. We can help you. Read every word on this page.
The usa Copyright office offers a great copyright protection system, even though it can show harmful for speculative composers and songwriters at $45 per work. It can also be labour-intensive and slow, taking (sometimes) up to 4-6 months to receive registration.

The choice, so-called ‘Poor Man’s Copyright’ offers no defense against the world wide web ‘Pirates’ who illegally use and distribute other people’s copyright material every day.

An additional danger is many Songwriters are now using Websites to ‘showcase’ their material around the globe. Again, many do this within the belief that by just marking their pages ‘Copyright by…’ or utilizing the ‘©’, they’re protected.

Probably the most good ways to protect songs and music from illegal use (theft) would be to possess the material published. However it is an aggressive market, and the days, Music Publishers are incredibly selective – despite the fact that, unlike most industries, Music Publishing Companies’ profits are still on the rise. And 2009 is predicted being another boom year for Music Publishing. Deals are now being signed give fist for digital distribution of songs and music. Musical Ringtones are another huge earner.

So what is a Songwriter to do? The simple step is to self-publish material, ensuring a highly effective ‘paper trail’ that establishes a brief history and trackable presence of her or his songs. And taking advantage of the world wide web, this is easily done too, although care has to be taken the actual ‘publishing’ might be verified by an unbiased 3rd party – which, establishes and endorses an effective, demonstrable form of copyright.

Plus by self-publishing, the songwriter retains all rights to the songs and music. So later, in case a cope with an archive Label or music publishing companies emerges, the songwriter ‘goes in to the meeting’ with full charge of his / her material.

This puts the songwriter in a better, initial position – self-publishing illustrates that this songwriter has now taken the first step in ‘taking proper business’ – ‘TCB’ as Elvis’s belt buckle so rightly described.

It seems like likely by investing in the a large number of websites being created every single day, as well as the constant, 24/7 theft of songs and music through the Internet, the requirement for on-line Publishing and Copyrighting services is only able to increase.

Norman MacLeod, originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, is often a writer, author and musician living and working vacation. In 2008 he founded intelLoc, an internet Publishing Service for Songwriters, Composers and Authors, having copyright material stolen by way of a US-based record label. For their fee, intelLoc enables Songwriters, Musicians, Lyricists and Composers to share and copyright their material online while they actually create it.

When it comes to learning to get yourself a how to get a record deal, your choices are a lot more bleak. Over is the time when bands could be prepared to be grabbed by the major players in the marketplace by simply playing of their local pubs or bars on a Saturday night. Will no longer are you able to record a demo or two, post them off in jiffy bags a number of record labels and expect to obtain a call not much later.

The world population has become a completely different place because the likes of “The Who” and “The Beatles” broke onto our r / c. It is a digital world. Quantity of instant communication, online community and smart-phones. It is a world whereby five minutes a performer gets the capacity to reach viewers on their own by posting a relevant video online, Facebook or MySpace. From the outset this seems fantastic and many young artists consider good thing about this on a regular basis. But you, musicians haven’t been further taken from the record labels themselves. Amongst all this techno-wizardry and superhighway promotion there is a severe insufficient available knowledge out there if someone else truly wants to discover ways to obtain a how to get a record deal.

Finding a how to get a record deal is not only about exposure, it’s really down to targeted exposure. That’s where these modern technologies fall down dramatically. The thing is and always has been, getting the A&R executives to get the slightest curiosity about your band in the first place. These record labels don’t accept unsolicited demo’s, and thus any material you return them, usually, be put into their waste paper bin. They won’t take telephone calls from anyone apart from the top managers the music activity industry and they’ll only have a look at the bands or acts which have already generated some form of buzz about the live music circuits.

So precisely how can you obtain a record offer this day and age?

Start performing live, get band merchandise made. Finance your personal albums and then sell them in the boot of your respective car at gigs. Print off flyer’s and hand them out in city centres. Do whatever you decide and can to obtain people interested. Eventually if you undertake it for very long enough if you suitable and resilient enough to possess saddled with it. Someone around will notice you. That’s when the roller-coaster ride begins.

It’s a sobering thought and one which scares many a future artist in to giving up on his / her dream. Unfortunately, in relation to learning how to get a how to get a record deal, there is little change more with it. People who succeed are quite simply, individuals never stop trying.

A music publisher can take on many tasks that cover anything from promotion, materials, or simple “banking.” A publisher can send your songs to tv shows, films, and commercials, and acquire your songs noticed by major music business and artists. The publisher also manages the finances that come with song promotion, use, and licensing, and requires a large cut with the profits in exchange for the skills that will get your song noticed.

Tips to get music publishing deal? This question is as expansive and complex because the ubiquitous “how must i get a record deal?” Plus this case, the answer then is just as little of your magic pill. The background music publishing business can be challenging to interrupt into, specifically an new artist. Though very occasionally you can obtain a music publishing deal via a single brilliant song, the surest strategy for taking your song published is usually to make music publishers want to publish your work.

So, ways to get noticed with a music publisher? You ought to get your songs heard without a publisher first. Buy your name onto some tracks which has a writing or production credit, to build up your credibility as someone merit publishing.

What exactly are music publishers looking for? Normally, music producers are most wanting to publish songs by writers or artists who learn how to promote themselves and therefore are already generating income through their music. Look everywhere for possibilities to get the songs onto albums, websites, and television shows. Play shows, gain fans, manage a great site: get people buying your records. It helps for those who have a record deal; this implies that your music is marketable and valuable. You are likely to have to do many of the work you to ultimately prove your songs are publishable. Make connections with band managers as well as a & R representatives. In case you feel the work at this point, the music agents are going to visit you-or if you don’t, they will a minimum of be much easier to set up a gathering with.

Emi music publishing is a example of a company that can get you music contracts to publish your music.

After you have established that your songs count a publisher’s time and expense, you can begin to call publishers. You should use “The Songwriter’s Market,” a magazine that lists a number of contacts, addresses, and submission guidelines for music publishers; alternately, you can use a music contacts database online. Once you find music publishers that appear to match with your goals, spend some time to carefully assemble your materials to deliver so they keep to the guidelines established. In case your material is quality (with a proven success record), then you will usually locate someone willing to speak with you over it and strike up an arrangement. However it is best if you can make some forms of connections so that you can are certainly not sending your materials completely unsolicited. Try and spark some interest and relationship if your songs. And after sending your songs, be persistent-follow up on your submissions every several days. Be polite, but guarantee the publisher has given your submission a listen and provides which you definitive good or bad.

After you have a song publisher enthusiastic about your music, you’ll do well to have an entertainment attorney to debate the agreement from the offer together with you. There are several types of publishing deals, and you desire to be clear on what you are getting into. If the deal sounds good to you both, sign the deal; your music is currently published. You will need to keep doing almost all of the hard work yourself with promotions and touring, but a music publisher will there be to have your song on the Tv program, look for a singer on your song, and merely widen the market for your songs normally. You’re on your journey to reaching fame!

There are many techniques for finding your songs to the people inside the songwriting industry who’ve the connections to make them into hits. On this page we’ll go through just 2 of those methods: getting your song pitched with a music publisher inside them for hours it pitched by a songplugger. We’ll then explore which is the better choice in the given situation.
Its not all music publishing company seeks songs from independent songwriters. Some function purely as copyright administrators of previous hits while some plenty of staff writers to meet their demands. But a majority of publishers do indeed seek song material from indie songwriters to construct their song catalog. The best part is music publishers don’t charge a songwriter anything up front. Should they think your song can be a potential hit they’ll will give you a single song contract and when you sign, will pitch the song on their contacts to acquire a share of future royalties.

Emi music publishing is a company that can get you music contracts to publish your music.
Other good things about the music activity publisher route bring that they sometimes pay advances against future royalties, many even hire staff writers, and quite a few aren’t merely wanting for the song for a specific artist but rather once and for all songs generally to enhance their catalog for future opportunities. There’s no need to execute a vertical pitch, any great song will perform okay.

Songpluggers typically charge an upfront fee to pitch songs to their contacts. They are helping you as well as in my experience many (don’t assume all) will pitch everything else you pay them to advertise. Maybe they did not start out with that philosophy, but people have bills to pay for. It’s not to state they can’t perform the job, try to be aware they might be biased.

So which avenue- publisher or plugger- is way better? This will depend about the song. For those who have a surefire hit that you believe is going to be quickly signed by the music publisher and pitched hard, or perhaps you think the song suits a painter on the label a publisher has had success with in yesteryear, then give that music publisher, or music publishers generally speaking, the very first possibility to sign it. The huge benefits are the lack of fees, the truth that the publisher becomes behind the song given that they find it irresistible, not for filthy lucre : ) and expanded opportunities: when the song is within their catalog they’ll keep pitching it, usually for several years, as projects appear.

For those who have a song that you simply absolutely believe in that has been declined by several music publishers, or you use a song you’re positive will probably be tough to place using a publisher that could possibly be time and energy to try the songplugger route. Another compelling reason to choose a songplugger occurs when you’ll want to reach a certain contact a plugger has exclusive access to.

You could wonder the reason why you can’t simply pitch your own songs. In some cases you can. But that decision will shut you of an lot of pitching opportunities. It’s pretty common within Nashville for music publishers or songpluggers to get a working relationship that has extended into personal friendship with A&R people on the companies on Music Row, or even with the actual recording artist, and for that reason provide an “in” with someone who might not accept unsolicited material and definitely will hear anything their friend feels is correct.

One friend owns a publishing company, is a superb friend of the certain major label recording artist, spends time at with a lot of private sector employees they met when first moving to Nashville two decades ago who’re now heads of A&R at various companies on Music Row which is currently pitching the catalog of one other music publisher/friend. Those are the kind of relationships you’ll be able to tap into by signing which has a professional music publisher or songplugger.

The bottom line to all here’s your song needs to be of a good quality or neither a song publisher or songplugger may well stick it. It must use a strong hook plus it should have one or more or maybe more with the following: an exciting melody, a clever lyric, or possibly a unique concept. In case you have one or more of those three elements you at the very least possess a shot. Of course, if you can hit on the three of those cylinders, well…which is the stuff song pitcher’s dreams are made of.

One of my favorite things that is taught my my mentor (which you can find a link to learn from him below) is to create a video that is what I like to call subliminal. Have you ever been watching YouTube and seen the question asked “What is the song in the background?” Ahhh what a way to capitalize. You need to get your music recorded on quality recording equipment. If you don’t have a lot of money just start with 2 or 3 songs. If you don’t want to be in the videos, that’s fine. Go to your high school or college and post a sign that asks people to help you out by making a stupid video on YouTube. Go buy a laptop for $300 or something and have a contest for the dumbest video. Put on there the person who gets the laptop is the video that gets the most views on YouTube. What you want is a video that has no words, so maybe put on your promotional flyer for the contest. You have to be doing stupid actions like lighting yourself on fire, etc. The words in the video cannot be important, no sound will be kept.

Now what you do is this, have people all submit their videos to you (do not let people submit their own video to YouTube), in the background of the video put your song. You can find out how to lay audio behind a video all over the internet just search Google. Put these videos on your bands channel and talk about the contest on your band and personal Facebook page. Once the videos are up, people trying to win the laptop are going to be telling their friends about the videos. Notice this whole time not a word is said about your music. Guess what though? Each one of these views is going to hear your song. It is inevitable that someone watching the video will ask what is this song in the background?

When that happens you are golden. You see these people will pass around these videos because of what is going on in them, but all at the same time they are coming to your band’s youtube channel, listening to your bands music, but promoting the video (which is much easier to get watched). Some of them may watch other videos and find you have a whole selection of awesome videos. Some will even see there is a contest and watch them all. They may promote several of the videos to their friends, and the videos go viral. You did nothing with this video except put it online after laying your track down behind what is going on. This is probably the easiest method of music promotion alive today. You get an army that will promote your music, for a measly $300.

As the contest gets more and more publicity the songs get played more and more and more people hear them. On top of that these people who are trying to get views to their video for a laptop are working for you constantly promoting your band. They are telling everyone they know to go watch the video and in turn listen to your song. Next thing you know a bunch of people are subscribed to your Youtube channel for the quality videos you have up. Those people are sitting ducks to buy your tracks. Each time you release a new single or album, you have a following that you can promote your music to. All for the cost of a laptop (which you can by at Wal-Mart for almost nothing.) If you are too lazy to buy the laptop, just give away cash, $300 works.

Remember make sure you actually give the prize like you said. Your image is everything. If the person who made the video gets the most views but doesn’t get their prize, they can spread the bad word a lot faster than the good word spread. Also make the contest long enough to be effective. The most YouTube views in 30 days is a good one. Also keep reminding the contestants every day how many days they have left and who is winning. This reminds them to promote their videos through any means they can every single day. This means for 30 days Youtube is going to get hammered with requests to play your song.

Is your head spinning yet? Do you see the power of this method? This is absolutely one of the best tactics I have used in my online music marketing. I had over 1,000,000 people listen to one of my songs with this method when I first implemented it and that was in about 20 days. One of the guys that entered was a very popular dude, and had a bunch of people coming to watch his video. My song played in the background over and over again. As a matter of fact my song was being listened to by 50,000 people per day and I did very little work. At the end of the contest I had something like 100,000 people subscribed to my Youtube channel.

The very next month I released a single on a music site, and I sent a message to my entire channel. Did you like the music you heard in the background of the Improv Contest? Well, I just put out a new single and you all get a special deal. I turned several thousand dollars off that message. That is how you promote your music baby!

This is all ideas that you learn about music promotion from my good buddy here:

Submit Music http://howtopromoteyourmusic.com/on-the-radio/submit-music.html http://howtopromoteyourmusic.com/on-the-radio/submit-music.html#comments Fri, 23 Dec 2011 16:49:38 +0000 Rob Kim http://howtopromoteyourmusic.com/?p=33 How do you go submit music to hopefully land record label contracts. Do you use someone like A&R Contacts who can help you make contacts in record companies, do you do it yourself? Do you even know where to start? Have you even recorded your music? Read every word on this page because we are [...]]]> How do you go submit music to hopefully land record label contracts. Do you use someone like A&R Contacts who can help you make contacts in record companies, do you do it yourself? Do you even know where to start? Have you even recorded your music? Read every word on this page because we are going to tell you how to get discovered by record label companies.

First, let’s take a walk back in history. Back in the day to get discovered by record companies and get record label contracts you had to have a huge following in your region. That usually started with playing local gigs, then you might get booked in a town an hour away, then maybe at the state fair, or get to open for a show at the state fair, or maybe a bigger show. At any rate it was hard. You basically had to be good, had to be able to book shows and get in front of the right people. This was not just a combination of being able to play music. You had to really know the music business, how to land gigs, submit music, etc. Not only were you a musician you had to be a sales person.

Now some of that hasn’t changed, if you are going to make it big you are still going to have to sell yourself before you submit music. You are still going to have to market your band as a business. I learned how to market my band as a business through a great teacher. The world has expanded, however, and now it is possible (though not likely) to be discovered without even leaving your garage. Sites like Facebook, Myspace and YouTube had made it very possible for musicians to be discovered by big time music people. A music producer is always looking for his next big score, that’s how they make money. They are, in fact, looking under “rocks” to unveil that next big star. As a matter of fact an artist with a lot of views on YouTube is a safe investment for a music producer because they already have a fan base.

That said, the key to getting picked up is not having a YouTube video with the most views. Remember, some people spread around videos because they are horrible also :) If you are simply into music because you see it as a way to make money, you probably should start thinking about other money making strategies. Most artists struggle and are dirt poor for years before they make it big. Your dream has to be making the music, not being the next Nickelback “rockstar.” You have to play the music because the music is in your bloodstream, it is who you are!

Music is your product. Like any other product you need to produce a quality product. You can’t produce mass crap products and then expect to land any record label contracts. If you are going to submit music to any label or a place like A&R contacts then you better have some damn good music. You better have people besides mom and dad asking you to play them your song. You better have invested in quality recording. There is nothing worse than being an exec to whom which someone has worked hard to submit music, and it turning out to be a recording done on a computer microphone. That said, some people have success doing that on YouTube. I still think even if you are going to perform your song on YouTube you should have a quality recording copy of it in case someone wants it.

You also need to make contacts. The music industry is really about connections. A company like A&R Contacts, for instance, has a bunch of contacts that they can hand off a demo to and try to get it in front of the right person. You can do this yourself too. When you go out and play gigs, meet with the people there. The battle of the bands per say is really not a battle. You and other bands need to network, help each other out along the way. Think about some of the bands in the business today. A lot of them have got their friends record deals. You know how they have done that? Because they have networked, and they are paying back favors. You never know which band has a contact, some of them might know some producer that doesn’t think they are the next star but might think you are. You get the most out of life by helping others. The more you help people the more you get in return. The best way to make money in any business is to make it by helping others accomplish their goals.

Get help marketing your music, click here!

Think about selling in general. If you help someone meet their needs through a product you make a sale. This is fundamental success in making money. You deliver a good product that meets someones needs you reap benefits. If that means passing off a contact to a band, you might get a better one in return. Hell some band you give a contact to, might get a deal, from your contact! That sucks right? No, because when they get big they will have all kinds of contacts. Since you helped them get where they are, they might talk to a contact and say you know, I know of this little band back in where ever you are that has been trying for years, you should check them out.

That’s the power of networking. The idea of networking is to solely give, and expect nothing in return. When you do this the things you get in return can be massive. The key is being willing to maybe sacrifice a bit to win. Submit music for a friend, that’s what people like A&R Contacts are good at. If you are destined to get a record label contract, it will come through good networking. That is a true record label secret.

The problem with music marketing is to get any of those things you have to be a good marketer, which most of us are not. Most musicians are just that, musicians. We aren’t business owners, web designers, marketing majors in college, etc. That is, generally speaking. I have to be frank here though, unless you can really promote your stuff somehow, you are never going to be discovered. There are so many artists out there, new ones are cropping up every single day. Even people with spectacular skills are overlooked because they are overshadowed by the sheer number of people out there trying to promote themselves or their bands.

Want an idea of how many people out there you are competing against? Think about the auditions for American Idol. Some of those people absolutely suck and they have no chance at getting a record deal, but when you are first starting out, they are your competition. What??? You exclaim, I am competing against people that sing like William Hung? You bet. The first step in music marketing has no bearing on how good you are, well sort of. Think of a different business. I could make a soft drink that tastes like piss and you could make a soft drink that tastes better than Coca Cola in 1000 taste tests, you win against Coca Cola. If I am good at marketing and distribution though my product could out sell yours. If my piss drink is in every gas station across the country and your awesome drink is only sold in your local convenience stores, I am going to out sell you. Not only that more people are going to know who I am, even though my drink tastes like piss (the William Hung drink). On the other hand, you are excellent but since nobody can find you your drink doesn’t sell.

The “kind of” comes in because if someone goes to your local convenience store and buys your drink and truly feels you are better than Coca Cola and starts talking about it, and their word goes viral, then you may outsell me. Coca Cola, however has a head start, so it might take you forever to catch up to them. Music marketing is the same way. Someone that really isn’t that good, if they have a good strategy to get noticed and be visible may get a record deal, while you being really good are still trying to just sell cds online to keep your head above water.

So what is it that you should do to be like my piss drink and be very visible? You need to master music marketing and music promotion.

I’m going to tell you the one secret to promoting your music that you are not going to like to hear. You need to start giving it away free. I know you hate me for this, because you want to make money and quit that crappy job. Let me tell you a story though about me. I was always into internet marketing (this is why I am qualified to tell you how to market music online). I was awful at it though. I tried to teach people how to do internet marketing, but it is hard to teach people when you suck at it. I knew a lot of tricks to make money on the internet, but the fact was I didn’t want to share those tricks without a fee. I really got my breakthrough when I started giving away my best tricks for free!

Well why does this work?

There are two reasons. First of all, I didn’t just hand it the tricks out with nothing in return. I used a website to capture the email address of anybody who wanted to get the information for free. You could do the same thing. Give away a free hit single, or a free cd to anybody who joins your email club.

The second reason, which works even better in music that in information marketing is people will talk if you are worth a crap.

Here’s the plan. On your website you offer to give away a song or a CD or whatever to someone who signs up to your email list. When you are out in public, you give away your CD to anybody who will take it. The goal then becomes the next time you have a CD you email your email list, and say hey I have a new CD for sale it is $10-$20. People on the list like you, and come buy your CD. The people who listened to your cd that you gave them for free, might also have talked about your CD.

When you are giving away your CD you could even put on there, get your own free copy of this cd at www.mywebsite.com. This way people who talk about your CD may refer people to come to your site, sign up for your email list and get their own free copy.

Let me tell you something, you never know where that free cd you gave away might end up. Mary J Blige made a karaoke tape in a boot at a mall, and it got passed from her dad to his friend to a record company executive which totally changed her life. The same thing could happen for you and land you a record deal. You have to be willing to give a little. If you have a gig, give away your CD. Most good businesses started out offering free stuff before they turned it into a business. Read the history of Google. They had a ton of investors, a ton of people using their service and they had no clue how to make money from it because they were offering a free service, a search engine. They figured it out now and are one of the most lucrative businesses in history.

Give it away free that is music marketing. Once you have the following then you can sell cds online.

I heard once that there are several musicians out there that are spending multiple hours a day trying to promote their music. This is just a tragic thing. Let’s face it, for most musicians your talent is in your music not in marketing your music. It would be very unlikely that the majority of musicians are actually equally as interested in marketing.

If you are spending more than 20% of your time set aside for music just trying to sell your music then you probably should rethink your promotion strategy. The problem is most people don’t have the budget to pay some music promotions company to do digital music distribution. On top of that who even knows which one of these companies will actually get you success and not just take your money?

The better strategy for most people is to market their own music. There are several benefits:

1. You don’t need a marketing budget there are ways to do this for free.

2. If you become successful at this you don’t have to share the reward with someone else.

3. You don’t have to worry about being scammed out of your money.

4. You have full control over everything if you decide to change directions you can do that.

So what could be wrong with this strategy?

Well nothing, except it can literally take all your time and stop you from creating new music. Let’s say it is successful, you build a bunch of fans. People love your music. What’s the issue? Nothing, except you have no more music because you spent all your time doing marketing instead of making music.

Now, the alternative to this is to hire a music promotions company. They are going to take money from you and go out and promote you. Now, that can be beneficial, yes but it is going to cost you.

 • These people will help you by scoring you bigger gigs and getting you publicity. The problem is the amount of money you spend will only be justified if you are good, and the people who hire are good.
 • So what does a good music promotions company do for you?
 • They will take your music and get it on the plate of radio stations both at the local and national level. You can imagine the exposure this will get you.
 • These same companies will also get you placed in online places. Music places like Myspace. Ezines that will talk about you. A lot of promotions that exist online.
 • These same companies can also get your music talked about on thousands of blogs. They have the contacts they need to get your music looked at.
 • They will get you placed in directories, good directories, these are places that tons of people go back to over and over to find new and good music.
 • You can get your music sent out through podcasts that a tone of people listen to. Land instantly on iPods. This is digital music distribution at its finest!
 • Quite possibly even Indie record deals. Yes they are small, but this gets your foot in the door to a big deal.

Independent music distribution is one of the hardest things you can try to do. That being said it has gotten a lot easier with recent technology than it used to be. Can you imagine back in the 1980s for instance before there was Youtube, Myspace, Twitter, Facebook and all the other’s how hard it was to do independent music distribution? Let’s face the facts, back in the day if you made it big you were an extremely hard worker or a very smart marketer, or you were just insanely talented. I think there is probably a good possibility that even the insanely talented would have gotten overlooked back in the day just because of the fact that they were unable to do any type of digital music distribution. As a matter of fact they weren’t even able to do digital music .

Independent music distribution is just like music promotions company usage. There are costs involved. I mean as we all know there are costs involved to all of this. Everyone who is successful has to make some sort of investment though. That investment may only be time, but usually it is more an investment of money.

Here are my tips for digital music distribution:

1. Spend quality time recording a 3 to 5 track CD. Go get quality recording, spend time in a good studio and pay someone who knows what they are doing to master your tracks.

2. Once you get the recording done you need to have 1,000 copies made. Usually in this quantity you get a discount done on the production.

3. The real purpose of these CDs are to sell at your live shows. Remember this is how independent music distribution was done back in the day!

4. If you don’t have a website for your band, get on it. You can build one yourself or pay someone to do it. There are good people willing to do it on sites like Odesk or Getafreelancer and most of them will do a fantastic job for cheap! Your band is a business, do not make your website look like your garage make it look professional. Check sites of big artists, that is what you want your site to look like!

5. Set up an account with Paypal and have your site sell your CDs and also have it sell digital copies of your singles.

6. Promote your band and your website every chance you get. Use the social networking sites mentioned above as well as forums (make sure you contribute not just SPAM).

7. Start a BLOG as part of your website and promote your band there.

8. Run contests, have giveaways for your fans. Here is a great example. Make a blog post, give away a free CD to the person who makes the best video promoting your blog and uploads it to YouTube, have them comment on your blog post with the Youtube Video. Now your fans are promoting you, the more comments the more people will do it. It’s a viral effect. People on Youtube see the fan promoting you and visit your site.
